Catholic Life

This has nothing to do with food and normally I would use another interface to write this. However, since this is my blog and I can say something in more than 140 characters on here, this is where it will happen.

I've heard a lot of things from critics of the Catholic faith recently pertaining to certain issues that have infringed on our faith, mainly the recent mandate by the Obama administration to force all institutions regarding health to provide birth control, sterilizations, and other procedures.

No matter who you are, this should scare you. The fact that Christianity is a religious majority in the United States should create even more uncomfortableness. If an administration and particularly the Department of Health and Human Services is trying to force a majority in the United States to go against the beliefs that they've had since their establishment then who's next?

The fact that I've heard people saying they don't care about this cause because it doesn't directly pertain to them or because "the Catholic Church receives government funding" should make the fear envelop even more. If the church is receiving funding (which I could talk about for hours on where that funding, if it is truly given to the church, actually goes) then this is something we all should be paying attention to. If the government wants to take something from a major church or religious affiliation and it succeeds in doing so then what is left that the government will not force American people to do?

This isn't about healthcare, this is about religious freedom. To practice and believe freely without mandates from the government.
I urge you to take a look into this and instead of letting the fear seep into you, stand up for religious freedom.

For more information on the Catholic stance I strongly recommend an article from Catholic.org and the Letter on Healthcare Mandate by Cardinal designate Dolan.

  1. I agree with all this, but even though Christianity is the majority religion, a majority of those Christians practice contraception and are apathetic about the issue. :(

  2. Precisely Sam. I was going to dive into that a bit but felt it strayed away from the topic a little. This is mainly for those who are not of the Christian faith... as that is where I've seen the feedback/criticism from. It is sad that we are divided on the issue as Christians and it's also sad that so many define themselves as a Christian but don't practice faith outside of defining themselves.
